Blocks from the Chain — Issue #76
Good morning internet squad how the hell are you doing today?
Big news last night in the crypto-sphere when it comes to all things blockchain as EOS announced that they are launching not only EOS 2.0 but a social media platform called VOICE — it certainly sounds like it’s fixed a bunch of issues that you have on the STEEM platform so it’s gonna be one of the new blockchain that I’ll be playing with in the coming year — of course, I’m not leaving steem because of it, gonna be nice to have another chain to play with, i kinda treat this like a side chain to my online presence and learning.
It doesn’t and should’t be one chain vs another chain, they all have their own legacy benefits and just enhances this whole niche industry in general. The more people that use decentralised versions of existing popular social media sites the better things will be — from security, acquiring tokens, understanding how these chains function, a more educated and future thinking internet citizen, the days of centralised web applications are numbered that’s for sure.
As for steem right now, it seems to me that in the creation of the ‘middle class’ we also have non bias behavioural changes being implemented subtly at code level, it feels incredibly ‘clicky’ and ‘cliche’ based — it’s been interesting to watch how people have adapted and who’s been vocal and got involved, amazing how a blockchain conference can see non bias allegiances form! :)
To be fair, if we look at steem as a startup, it’s already been through the acquired feels (startups normally do after a few years) and in some ways we feel like sometimes we are teetering on the edge of shuttering within a year.
if certain hard forks, economic changes and forced agenda frontends win out on their vision of what the platform should be we can potentially see steem as a barren place, the vision now should be to really push the MIRA codebase spinning up a 500/1000 node massive network of dapp owners and more webinar educational lessons for people that want to learn.
It’s incredible hard to judge however when a lot of the original vision and code made it easy for bot armies and pre-mine people to hold a lot of ‘power’
that being said, it’s been through twenty hardforks already which is insane that’s it still here. Still kicking, still creating great dapps and developers, that speaks volumes to me and that’s why i stay.
My perfect steem world would be a custom condenser frontend with my own witness host powering it, connected to the steem network so i can maintain those friendships (the handful i have!) and still benefit from the voting component and the immutability of it all!
# AVARICE (word of the day)
Avaricen. Immoderate desire, greed for wealth: an unreasonably strong desire to obtain and keep money. “His life was consumed by ambition and avarice.”
